A coupla years ago, this guy filled in on the drums for a Melbourne show. Now he’s fulltime! SBF’s first Canberra show with local legend Jesse Sewell is on Wednesday 17 September, supporting The Love Junkies at Transit Bar. FB event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/333421013483644/

23/08/14 - New single, new album, new Super Besties lineup…
It’s the twenty-shirt of August 2014 and for today’s #superthreadsfriends merch photo we honour the original Bestie Boys and formally announce the changing situation in the band: Song-writing powerhouse and genius of self-taught drumming, Adam Bridges decided to leave the band last year but saw through our tour with Calling All Cars, our 2013-14 summer shows and the Sydney Future Of The Left support before making his exit in February. Some Canberrans may have been lucky enough to catch him do a few solo sets earlier in the year as Girl Sized Hands. 2014 has been a massively important one for our viral video mastermind, puller of berserk facial expressions/stage antics and rather good bass/piano-accordion player Matt Roberts. His young family welcomed Nina this year (baby #2!) and while soaking up the Finnish summer sun for a few months, Matt has decided to take an indefinite break from music and playing in a touring band. Despite the downtime, Super Best Friends has still been busy this year. John began working with good mate and new Super Besties drummer Jesse Sewell on material for an album in January and Jesse actually recorded the full 14-song demo at Corin Forest in March. More recently, John’s former housemate and Melbourne local Dan Beck jumped in on bass to play some warm-up gigs ahead of the album recording with Tom Larkin in Brunswick last month - and with Matt overseas - Dan ended up providing the low-end on the album as well as a blistering, face-melter of a solo on a completely new track. Thanks also for the roof and futons in Flemington too, DB! So, there’s a new Super Besties single on the way and a debut album and a heap of touring, but that also means the first Canberra show without Adam & Matt. If you see them there, give them a high-5 for many long years of service to rock’n’roll but keep them away from the rider. Seriously, thanks to Adam & Matt for doing this for such a long time and for being such excellent musicians and friends. The good shows, the road-trips listening to Hit Machine compilations and The 12th Man will always be great to reflect on, but may we continue to laugh about those terrible moments that are now hilarious stories, for many years to come! Anyone in a band will know what I mean. Oh yeah, the photo! Breaking the long-standing rule of bands not wearing their own merch by modelling our brand new Wiggles range of t-shirts, back in the early days. We were recording with über Canberra producer and great mate Chris Legge (eyes closed, far left). Chris has done so much for us and lots of Canberra bands. He recorded our Seditious Material and Ready Aim Fire! EPs (including our first songs to get radio play) and really is the 4th Super Best Friend. We love you, Leggey Blonde!
