So #Refused gave props to Nick Cave, that’s a given. But it was a mention for The Hardons which was the best bit. #Australian #punk #props (at Palace Theatre)

Somehow we missed this review in Sludge Factory - thanks dudes!
“SUPER BEST FRIENDS is the title of both a young punk rock band from the mean streets of Canberra and a rather memorable episode of South Park. In this instance we’ll be discussing the punk band from the nation’s capital, and specifically their recently released 5 track EP ‘Handshake’, which follows on from the well received ‘Ready, Aim, Fire’ from 2009. Fans of the band have been hanging out for this release since first single ‘Karma Karma’ hit the airwaves at the end of last year to rave reviews. The EP was released to coincide with a national tour, which hit all the major cities and showcased the brand new tracks to a rapidly growing fanbase. The previously mentioned, ‘Karma Karma’ comes in second on the disc and is indicative of the band’s all guns blazing approach to their craft - a two minutes and change slice of fuzzy, take no prisoners electro punk. Think a more relevant version of Alanis Morissette’s ‘Ironic’, cut down to size and on speed. This follows opener ‘No Logo Is A Joke’, which is a more straight ahead, balls out rock track that ponders the evils of modern day mass commercialisation and obsession with brand names, “Now I look good and don’t feel bad, can’t live without my new iPad.”
The questioning of contemporary way of life continues on EP standout ‘The Bleachers’, which puts small minded bogans and racists squarely in the gun - “I have the right to slum and inbreed, I’m scared your mosque will take that from me” - and in particular seems to be taking aim at the Cronulla race riot participants from a few years back. It’s really well written and seems destined to become a live favourite. Fist in the air choruses are becoming a trademark for this band. ‘The Bleachers’ may be their best example of this yet. Ending with the line “We’re so far away and we’re so afraid” it again confirms that even though the band may look scruffy and juvenile they’ve still got something to say. Just like the original punk bands from way back when.
‘Handshake’ is an excellent EP and another step in the right direction for a band that describes themselves as “outraged party rock” and live up to the title. Big things are expected of SUPER BEST FRIENDS and so far they have done nothing to suggest that they won’t exceed those expectations. 8 stars.” - Brendan Fletcher
